Are there any decent alternatives for this on Linux? Am I correct in thinking this is what unRaid is for? Other than Argus, the only other program that is not going to work on Linux is Stablebit Scanner and Drivepool (I use a RAM Disk program and Emby too, but these should work fine). I did go through a phase of trying out Linux but this was probably due to being caught up in the hype of trying if for the sake of it rather than for a genuine reason like this. The one thing that is going to be be a little bit tricky is switching my server over to Linux. It does seem to be as close as you can get as the official backend for those using Kodi on all their clients. Thanks so much for that - what you have said has really inspired me to have a look at TVHeadEnd now. MEDIAPORTAL PVR CLIENT CONNECTION LOST KODI TVI am, however, keen to have a go with Mediaportal 2.ĭo you think that there is any chance that the Mediaportal team might absorb Argus into its new TV engine? Afterall, 4TR did start off as a plugin and I always found it odd that it went off and did its own thing. Mediaportal (which I used to use years ago) would seem to be my fall back but it is sad that there is no intelligent scheduling of recordings. However, I am keeping my eyes out for any alternatives, just in case Microsoft does something that catastrophically stops Argus working. I am definitely going to keep on using it for the time-being as it just works so well for me. The thing that is really worrying me is the lack of progress on Argus at the moment - I notice that this has again been discussed on the forum and it does look like it has come to a bit of a dead end at the moment.Īs deleted member has stated, Argus is beyond compare when it comes to PVR abilities - it never crashes and its intelligent scheduling means that I have never miss anything at all. Very interesting discussion - like you, I have tried most HTPC programs and eventually settled (and have been using) Argus TV as my sole backend for scheduling and recording TV and then Emby for serving up ripped DVDs and music etc.Īll my TVs have a raspberry Pi, running Kodi and the Argus and Emby add-ons. It all comes in OTA.Īs stated, I've been through MediaPortal, ArgusTV, NextPVR, WMC, JRiver, SageTV and a few others I've probably forgotten about over the past number of years and this is the most stable, flexible, family-friendly whole-house media solution that meets my needs. MEDIAPORTAL PVR CLIENT CONNECTION LOST KODI FULLClientsare a mix of HTPC VMs (again in the unRaid box), NUCs of full PCs/Macs.įor Freesat and Saorview (Irish freeview), I don't need to subscribe to any EPG services or set up and XML importers etc. I use Digital Devices Octopus hardware and have 4x DVB-S2 tuners and 2x DVB-T tuners in a single PCIe slot. It has a reputation of being tricky to set up, but no more so really than any of the others - it's all done via a web UI. Of course TVHeadEnd won't run on windows, as far as I know, but I have a centralised unRaid storage array and I run it there as a plug-in. MEDIAPORTAL PVR CLIENT CONNECTION LOST KODI SERIESThis gives me great PVR capabilities, including series recording, a centralised media library that essentially looks after itself and a flexible client that runs on multiple platforms and has tons of configurability. (Now, I set up one instance of Emby server and can add as many Kodi front-ends as are needed without having to set up media libraries on each one). This essentially circumvents the Kodi limitation of not having a centralised library. There's a Kodi PVR plug-in for TVHeadEnd and a really good integration with Emby server that transparently syncs Emby media into Kodi categories. MEDIAPORTAL PVR CLIENT CONNECTION LOST KODI MOVIEI've been through almost all of them over the past number of years and have ended up with the following Įmby Server for music and movie library management I haven't tried MediaPortal 2 with the MediaPortal TV engine, that was going to be my next step, but I really like Emby, so I have stuck with that for now. Costs $5 per month for using their Emby Theatre player, everything else is free. Then I just share my Argus TV recorded TV folder in the library. DVB Viewer plugs in for live and recorded TV. MediaPortal 1 - works well with Argus TV, but if you have a multi room set up, it's a bit of a pain to maintain lots of separate machines.Įmby - I'm a new convert to Emby, it has many features that are really good for a multi room, multi platform set up. I have tried many many different option, and I can't find Nirvana - especially for EPG data now that RT is gone, so currently I have:Īrgus TV - can't find anything that competes with it in regards to intelligent scheduling and remote access, not sure why yours isn't working, hopefully just a configuration issue.ĭVB Viewer - is not bad, seems faster for live tv than Argus, but scheduling is not as intelligent.ĮPG: Schedules Direct is okay, but not sure it is worth the cost or the faff over just OTA EPG grabbing by the tuners.
